Question 1: How are you today?
I am fine thank you, its a really fine day today.
Question 2: How progressed where people in the field of chemistry before you?
At that time we believed that we were very progressed with many famous and important chemists like John Herapath.
Question 3: DId you have a mentor?
Well I did not have someone that was a huge mentor in my life but i did have some people that influenced my knowledge.
Question 4: Where did you go to school?
I studied at the University of Palermo which is in Palermo, Italy.
Question 5: How did you get into the field of chemistry?
I got interested in the field when I was in university. I was originally studying to be in medicine but I then became fascinated by chemistry and I changed my path.
Question 6:What contributions did you have to chemistry?
I created the Cannizzaro reaction. Its a reaction in which involves the base-induced disproportionation of an aldehyde lacking a hydrogen atom in the alpha position.
Question 7: What difficulties did you have in making these contributions?
I did not come across any major difficulties. The only difficulties that I came across of are the normal difficulties that all scientists go through while discovering a significant part of science.
Question 8: What was the process that you went through in completing these contributions?
Well I first discovered the reaction when I was in Alessandro. Then in a matter of many years, me along with many other amazing scientists understood the reaction more thoroughly and found new ways for what its used for and what we can use it for.
Question 9: Did you achieve your contributions by accident or on purpose?
I made my discoveries on purpose. At the time I was working with reactions and observing them then I discovered the Cannizzaro reaction.
Question 10: Did the scientific community ever doubt the work that you had achieved?
Of course you will always have people that agree with you and disagree with you in the scientific community but overall I did not receive that much criticism on my work, a lot of scientists accepted it and some even started studying it.
Question 11: What fame did your achievements bring you?
I have because quite famous in the scientific community because of my achievements. There are more awards then I can remember because of the quantity of them and also because of my age but I remember the Copley Award the most. I received it in 1891 for my cannizzaro reaction discovery. It is definitely my favorite award.
